Broken rib threatens German keeper´s World Cup

Germany s first-choice goalkeeper Rene Adler could be in danger of missing June s World Cup after breaking a rib in a Bundesliga match last weekend, it was reported here on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old Bayer Leverkusen star is German coach Joachim Loew s first-choice goalkeeper, but broke a rib in last Saturday s 2-1 defeat to Stuttgart.

The injury throws his World Cup place into question with the tournament set to start on June 11, but Adler is staying optimistic.

The doctors say the fracture is expected to heal pretty quickly, so I am cautiously optimistic, said Adler, who is set to miss Saturday s Bundesliga clash against Hanover, in a Leverkusen press release.

Adler won the first of his nine caps in October 2008 and along with Schalke s Manuel Neuer and…

Prediction: Real Madrid vs Deportivo Alaves

Best odds: 3/4

Bookmaker:

Real Madrid will play host to Deportivo Alaves at their Castilla side stadium bearing the name of club legend Alfredo Di Stefano on Friday evening, in a game which will be the 35th for both teams in the 2019/20 La Liga campaig, and a very important one for them both.

Real Madrid

A recent run of underwhelming results from their arch-rivals Barcelona has given Real a great chance to snatch the title back from the Catalans and bring it back to the Spanish capital. They were leading the race by four points ahead of this round, but Barcelona won their game this time the Catalan derby against Espanyol and are only a point behind now. It means Real must win this game to avoid the risk of dropping behind should they stumble anywhere in the las…

Manchester United 0-1 West Ham: Lanzini strike sends Solskjaer´s men out

West Ham sealed their first win at Old Trafford in 18 attempts as Manuel Lanzini s first-half goal secured a 1-0 win over Manchester United in the third round of the EFL Cup.

Both sides made wholesale changes from United s 2-1 Premier League win over the Hammers at the weekend, and it was David Moyes  men who settled quickest.

They deservedly went ahead after just nine minutes through Lanzini s first goal of the season, the Argentina international taking full advantage of some haphazard defending from the hosts.

Despite bringing on Mason Greenwood and Bruno Fernandes in the second half, United never really looked like clawing their way back into the game as the Hammers held on with relative ease.

Just listen to that away end!!

Ze Roberto to honour Hamburg contract

Former Brazil international midfielder Ze Roberto said on Saturday that he intends to stay at German club Hamburg until the end of his contract in 2011.

There s no reason to leave the club, Ze Roberto told the club website.

My family and I feel very good in Germany and at Hamburg. The most important thing is that I ve found a family at HSV.

The 35-year-old added that he had a very positive meeting with Hamburg coach Armin Veh at the beginning of the week.

I quickly realised that I was on the same wavelength, he said.

Our objectives are the same.

Ze Roberto enjoyed a fine spell of form at the beginning of the 2009-10 Bundesliga season, as Hamburg climbed to the summit of the table before eventually finishing seventh.

Fans´ agony as Germany´s ´summer fairy tale´ dies

It has become known as the Sommermaerchen 2010 or the summer fairy tale . Since the World Cup kicked off, balmy summer weather and red-hot performances have sent German football fans into raptures.

But for the roughly 350,000 vuvuzela-tooting fans who turned the fan mile near Berlin s famous Brandenburg Gate into a seething mass of black, red and gold, the fairy tale was shattered by one bullet-like Carles Puyol header.

As the ball hit the back of the net, the dream turned to desolation, despair and even anger. Many fans began to leave as soon as the goal went in, tears streaming down their faces.

Writer Grit Huebener, 36, summed up the feeling. I just cannot believe it. I am so disappointed. I saw loads of people crying.

Italy 1 Bulgaria 0: De Rossi scores and sees red in win

Italy went top of Euro 2016 qualifying Group H as Daniele De Rossi s penalty gave Antonio Conte s side a 1-0 win over Bulgaria in a game that saw both sides finish with 10 men.

The Euro 2012 finalists knew victory in Palermo would take them to the summit of the group following Norway s 2-0 victory against Croatia earlier on Sunday.

And Italy duly dominated from the start, needing just six minutes to open the scoring through De Rossi s twice-taken penalty.

Only the efforts of Bulgaria goalkeeper Bozhidar Mitrev prevented Italy from adding to their lead, but Conte will be without goalscorer De Rossi for their next qualifier in Azerbaijan after his second-half dismissal.

De Rossi and Bulgaria forward Ilian Mitsanski were each shown red cards for their res…

Manchester City had been linked with a move for the former Ipswich Town man, who only moved to Upton Park in the summer of 2014.

Since arriving at the East London club, Creswell has racked up fifty-one appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals and was voted their Players’ Player of the Year last season.

He was also selected as Ipswich’s Player of the Year in 2012, and was named in the PFA Championship Team of the Year at the end of the 2013/14.
